It’s hard not to notice the teenager shuffle into the cafeteria, the 14-year-old who walks like an old woman weighed down by arthritis. Jennifer Schmidt is the only eighth-grader followed by an escort during the graduation march. She carries a black cane topped with a plastic skull of Jack Skeleton, a character from one of her favorite movies, “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
