In their basic uniform of red swimsuit and baseball cap, whistle around the neck, sunblock on the nose and the obligatory sunglasses, it would seem lifeguards have it made — being paid to hang around the pool. Not so. Lifeguards are, in fact, much busier than they look. Participating in training sessions, performing simulated rescues, and giving swim lessons all augment the basic job.
