Demand for cosmetic surgery in Vietnam continues to soar

Figures released by the health department in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) show that demand for cosmetic surgery in Vietnam continues to soar, with 53 private clinics now licensed in the city. Of these 53 licensed facilities, 45 are specialized clinics, while 8 are general hospitals that also offer plastic surgery services.

Two doctors suspended after UAE liposuction death

Two doctors have been suspended in the United Arab Emirates, following the recent death of a woman who had undergone liposuction. The 27 year old Emirati women is said to have suffered brain damage during the 90,000 dirhams procedure, falling into a coma and dying three days later.

Most women would be interested in cosmetic surgery - UCLA study reports

A new report from UCLA scientists indicated that nearly half (48%) of all women surveyed said that they would be interested in undergoing either cosmetic surgery, liposuction, or both, with a further 23% saying that they would possibly be interested.

NZ Surgeon in botched breast reduction case named

The surgeon who was found guilty of professional misconduct following botched breast reduction procedure has been named by New Zealand's High Court as Doctor Gornoori Rama Krishnayya. The Napier based surgeon performed the breast reduction procedure on February 15, 2005, but things started going wrong for the patient shortly afterwards.

Brits to borrow $3bn for cosmetic surgery

A survey conducted by the UK bank Abbey reveals that nearly one million British patients plan to borrow $3 billion between them to pay for cosmetic surgery. It also indicated a gender difference in the appetite for cosmetic surgery, with UK women being three times more likely to undergo cosmetic surgery than UK men.

Weight loss surgery leads to improved liver health

A study conducted by the University of Texas indicates that the damaging effect on the liver of excess fat can be reversed by weight loss surgery, otherwise known as bariatric surgery. The study indicates that few patients experience a deterioration in liver health, while the majority of patients who undergo bariatric surgery see at least a stabilisation or improvement in their liver health.
